How To Travel The World For Free

It sounds like a dream doesn't it? Hopping onto a plane and taking a flight to the destination of your choice. Imagine collecting your flight tickets to New York, London, Goa - or wherever takes your fancy - and not having to pay a cent for them.

For a few people, this dream is actually a reality. How? Simply put they have discovered a little travel secret - namely that a lot of companies will actually pay the travel expenses for you to oversee their package or document from one country to another. Now this may bring to mind images of having to smuggle a microfilm past some dodgy russian customs ala James Bond, but the reality is nowhere near as exciting or dangerous - which is great news for the budget traveller. The even better news is that with a little know how, any adult can act as a courier and score free and deeply discounted flight tickets to the destination of their choice.

It's completely legal and can save you thousands in saved airfare every year. Courier companies are continually on the lookout for willing travellers to carry their items overseas. There is nothing sinister about it and nothing is hidden from the authorities - the traveller is paid with a deeply discounted (and sometimes free) air ticket. According to a survey by the Air Courier Association the standard saving that travellers get when they act as a courier is 85% on the normal flight price. There isn't a travel agent in the world that will match such a discount.

So what are your responsibilities as a courier? Well it's as simple as turning up to the airport on time and meeting the courier companys representative at the destination airport. As soon as you walk through the customs area at your destination, your job is over.

What are the drawbacks of this deeply discounted travel? Well for a start you're probably only going to be allowed one carry on bag as your luggage - so learning how to travel light & pack efficiently is essential. It's also important to have some degree of flexibility in terms of when you're able to fly, though usually you can get many flights comfortably in advance. You also need to be at least 18 and obviously have a valid passport.

Assuming you're ok with these drawbacks, you can really fly to just about any destination at incredibly low costs. You can learn more about how to be a courier at http://www.global-ebooks.com/TravelFree.htm or if you are looking for more budget travel tips check out http://www.my-online-powerpack.com/traveldiscount.htm

Ready to go? The whole world awaits you!

Favourite Holiday Destinations For The Irish

Europe's Mediterranean has long held an allure for tourists from other European countries and further afield. Reports indicate that many Irish holidaymakers, especially, will be spending their holidays in the Mediterranean. Two of the islands on the Irish holidaymakers wishlist for 2010 are Menorca and Majorca.

The region is appealing because it caters to a wide variety of tastes. Young and old, singles and families can find something to make their vacation special.

The Appeal of Menorca and Majorca

The group of islands that include Menorca, also called Minorca, and Majorca are popular. The almost year round sunshine, immaculate beaches and natural beauty constantly beckon. Menorca alone has in excess of 100 beaches, so the only problem is choosing one. No wonder the island is also referred to as "The Island of Pleasant Breeze."

Other attractions and activities in Menorca include the following:

* Visits to museums: Two popular museums in Menorca are the Museu Municipal de Ciutadella and Museu de Menorca. The first has an interesting display of artifacts from when the Muslims, Romans and Talayots lived on the island.

* The Los Delfines Aquapark: Children and the young at heart will be especially happy with the offerings here. The 12,500 square meter water park is situated just outside the city of Ciutadella. Some of the features that visitors seem most taken with at Delfines are Adventure River, the Black Hole and Hydrotubes.

* The Xoriguer Gin Distillery: A real gin distillery allows visitors to see how the product is made and even try a sample. Tourists who want to take home samples can buy bottles of the product. The family-owned company has been in the gin distillery business for over a century.

* Hiking: When visiting a tropical paradise, it is best to take in all it has in store. The natural beauty and landscape of Menorca makes the island ideal for nature hikes and tours. The terrain also offers much that appeal to

* Water Activities: With so many beaches it is no surprise that lots of water sports activities are available to choose from. Some of the most well-known beaches on Menorca are Cala Binibeca, Son Xoriguer and Son Bou. The latter has the reputation of being one of the most beautiful on the island.

Scuba diving and snorkeling offer underwater experiences hard to find anywhere else in the world. Even beginner scuba divers are not excluded, as there are classes just for them in some areas.

After a day or week of sightseeing and other activities, nothing helps a tourist relax more than a spa treatment. Many professional spas on the island help visitors unwind. Some hotels have top-class spas and facilities.

Mallorca also has its own unique appeal for visitors, whether from Ireland or other countries. Like Menorca, Mallorca holidays have lots to offer. A rich history has left behind hints of a past that still intrigues visitors. For a relatively small place, Mallorca's many villages all have something unique about them.

The island has not lost its appeal since it became popular in the 1950s. The dolphin and sea lion shows are always crowd pleasers. In addition, the beaches, natural habitats and cuisine entice locals and tourists alike. Majorca even has children's beaches, making it the perfect place for family vacations.

The islands offer lodgings of varying types, ranging from five-star hotels to simple bed and breakfasts. This is especially important to tourists as the euro climbs in value compared to other currencies. With minimal rainfall even in the wettest season, Menorca and Majorca are the perfect holiday spots for beach lovers this summer.

Traveling at the Last Minute? The Best Tips on How to Get Cheap Last Minute Flights!

When it comes to traveling, most people plan their trips in advance. However, there are others who need to fly at the eleventh-hour due to an urgent situation, business requirement or simply for pleasure. For these travelers, it is crucial to get hold of lowest priced tickets possible. Below are some useful tips on how to get cheap last minute flights.

The best solution for your worries about how to get cheap last minute flights is that you should always purchase air tickets from an airline consolidator. The consolidators purchase tickets in bulk at a discounted rate directly from the individual airlines. Afterward, they offer these discounted tickets to you on special rates which are much less than the actual price offered by the company itself. It indicates that whenever you are required to purchase flight tickets at the eleventh-hour, whether it's international or domestic, you must confer with the various airline agencies to find out whether they can offer you any seat at a discounted price than the existing airline rates.

In case you are flexible with your eleventh-hour departure dates, try to schedule them either on a Wednesday or Tuesday. It is on these days the flight tickets rates are less expensive compared to other days of the week. Also when booking, try to return home on the same day you departed. This way you will be able to save some money on your flight tickets.

Another important tip on how to get cheap last minute flights is that there are different online auction websites which will permit you to openly bid on flight ticket rates. It will enable you to get tickets at a much discounted price since through auction you will be allowed to quote a price that might be much lesser than the normal rates.

Lastly, you should always negotiate your flight ticket rates with the respective airline representatives prior to buying. This might not always work out, but sometimes if you do your online investigation properly on available ticket price, you might come across flights that do have last minute seats available. In that case you can successfully bargain on the rates as they will be keen on selling off the tickets before departure.

Knowing how to get cheap last minute flights is important for any traveler. Follow the tips above and you should see increased savings on your next last minute departure.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Budget Flights

Low budget flights are preferred by most people as they are money saving opportunities especially for those working on very tight budgets when travelling. The low cost carriers are available in most of the routes and destinations making it possible to make your flight as enjoyable as possible giving you lasting memories. Budget flights have advantages and disadvantages.

The fares: One of the advantages travelers stand to gain is the low fares. The main aim of the flights is to get people on board as fast as it is possible allowing the plane to depart as soon as it is possible. This is the main attraction to the flights.

The seats: The budget flights give travelers the opportunity to choose desired seats in the plane but at an additional cost. This does not however mean that you are entitled to that particular seat that you have paid for since you could end up at another seat in case you get late to the airport.

Flexibility: Even though one gets to enjoy the low affordable fares offered by the budget flights, comfort during travel might be compromised as you are supposed to be as flexible as possible to fit with the times and dates that the flight is scheduled to leave. This therefore means that you cannot be at liberty to leave at the time you would have wished for but during the time that flight is bound to depart.

Refunds and Services: When considering getting on budget flights, it is important to note that you might miss most services that you would expect when on board. Whereas most other commercial flights offer very good services in terms of entertainment and meals, budget flights might offer the same but at a price. Tickets are also most likely to be non refundable when using the budget flights compared to other kinds of flights.

Luggage: While there was a time when only budget airlines would charge for the traveler luggage, nowadays even other big airlines also charge for the luggage and you will have nothing to lose on this part when you travel using budget airlines. They may however be restricted to certain airports becoming an inconvenience for most people.

The 7 Most Important Core Values For Business ...And How To Apply Them

HAVING CORE VALUES FOR BUSINESS IS THE FOUNDATION OF A TRULY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS.

What is a Value?

A value is simply a label for something that is most important to you. It is important enough that you spend time trying to obtain it or keep it as a part of your lifestyle.

Values are essential to effective leadership. They are the uncompromisable, undebatable truths that drive and direct behavior. They are motivational, giving us the reason why we do things; and they are restrictive, placing boundaries around behavior. Values are those things that we deem important and that provide direction and guidance in spite of our emotions.

Your values reflect a vital part of who you are. Knowing what is most important to you and why can be helpful when making meaningful decision and for developing effective relationships.

It is very tough to make decisions about your business without first knowing what is most important to you and your business.

People who are confused and unclear about their values often have difficulty making the bigger decisions in life because they do no know themselves well enough to decide what would be best for them and their business.

Businesses, organizations, families and individuals all benefit from knowing and living by their core values.

In Business we use core values as a foundational statement that guides you in evaluating your options, and inventing new ones. If you understand the core values that motivates you, in turn your actions will directly have a massive impact on your actions!

Here are 7 Core Values For Business:

1. Humility

2. Integrity

3. Respect

4. Enthusiasm

5. Time

6. Talent

7. Treasure

Over the next week or so I am going to go into more detail about each one of these core values and how important they are to the success of your business.

Have An Awesome Day & God Bless!

How To Find The Best Frequent Flyer Credit Cards

Frequent flyer credit cards are considered to be the best of the reward type credit cards. Many credit cards offer rewards ranging from money back to free air travel, like frequent flyer credit cards. These cards let you earn free air miles for making purchases on your credit card. This is a good offer for people who travel often. The key is to find the card that offers the best deal.

The first step to finding the best frequent flyer credit card is understanding the basic way these cards work. When you make purchases with your frequent flyer credit card you earn points. The amount of points is based on the amount of money you charge to the card. Once you earn a certain number of points you can then redeem them fro discounts off airline tickets or free tickets. The basic idea behind these cards is to reward the card user for using the credit card instead of some other means to make purchases.

The basic features of a frequent flyer credit card are the same as any other card. There are fees and interest rates, along with differences in grace periods and other common features. It is always best to shop around for the fees and features that meet your needs the best. With frequent flyer cards, though, there is the additional considerations of the points. Points are earned for every dollar, but the number of points per dollar varies with each company. The number of points needed to get a free ticket also differ. To get the card that will help you earn the most it is important to shop around. Another consideration with frequent flyer cards is how the free miles work. Some cards work only with certain airlines. If you use a certain airline most often then it is important to check that the card you want to get lets you use your rewards at that airline. Also you might want to look into if there are blackout dates and expiration dates for using the rewards. Some cards also give away bonus points when you first get your card or for certain transactions you make, like balance transfers. Shop around and look for a card that meets your needs and offers the best deals.

There are a some frequent flyer cards that are affiliated with specific airlines. These airline cards offer the best deals in travel with the most rewarding points programs. They are best for someone who always uses a specific airline. These cards are often very competitive with their rates and fees as well. They are something to consider for the frequent traveler.

Frequent flyer credit cards are very easy to find and offer a variety of perks and options to suit any flyers needs. If you are an occasional flyer or a frequent flyer you can find a card for you where you can earn free air travel just by using your credit card.

The Best Day Of The Week To Buy Cheap Tickets

Believe it or not, there really is a best day of the week to make your best deal on an airline ticket, and it’s neither Monday nor Friday. It’s Wednesday! And there’s even a best time on Wednesday to buy that ticket.

Why Wednesday? Thank the small, upstart airlines. In the airline business, fare wars are started by the weakest competitors, and the big guys tend to be the ones to raise fares. And all of that tends to happen on Fridays.

So how did Wednesday become the ideal day to strike a deal?

Let’s say Airline A decides to raise fares. It usually does so at a late hour on a Friday night. By Saturday, Airline A’s major competitors will probably match that fare increase.

But what if the major competitors don’t match the higher fares? Then the instigator of the fare increase drops its fares back down late on Sunday night or on Monday morning. If you already paid a higher fare, you still may be out of luck.

Why? Because although you might still qualify for a lower fare and a ticket exchange, that terrible $100 change fee could wipe out your savings!

Here’s another example. Let’s say upstart Airline B decides to begin a fare war. Again, it happens late on a Friday night. Usually, some [but not all ] of the majors will match that fare on routes where they compete with Airline B.

Does that mean you should still book tickets over the weekend? Absolutely not.

Remember, I said some, but not all, of the majors will match that fare. By late Monday, depending on how that new fare is doing in the marketplace, Airline C might jump into the battle and offer an even lower fare, so look for all the other airlines to rush to match that one - usually by Tuesday - and the war is on. Prices might go even lower on Wednesday. And that’s when you strike.

Wait any longer than Wednesday, and you may be in trouble. The wars usually end by Thursday morning. Why? Friday is just around the corner! And the cycle starts all over again.

What’s the best time to buy your ticket on Wednesday? One hour after Tuesday midnight [1 a.m. Wednesday morning ].

Why? At about midnight, the airlines usually reload their computers with the latest low-cost fares that were announced the previous day but will be canceled if they are not purchased within 24 hours.

Cruise line comparison: Carnival or Royal Caribbean?

Carnival and Royal Caribbean are two popular cruise lines that have strong followings. Some cruise aficionados refuse to sail on one or the other. Are there any major differences between them? Explore which cruise may fit your needs the best. For our comparison we sailed on two similar ships - the Carnival Liberty and the Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas.

  • Itinerary Both ships go to Caribbean Islands like Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, St. Thomas, the Bahamas and St. Martin / St. Maarten. The Liberty also visited its private island Half Moon Cay, Puerto Rico, and Grand Turk. The Mariner of the Seas traveled to its private island Coco Cay and Labadee (the north coast of Haiti). We loved most of the locations that both of the ships visited and don't believe that this should be a distinguishing factor on deciding between the cruise lines.

  • Shows Each night there are a variety of shows. Usually you have the main show and some type of entertainment before and perhaps afterward. We felt that the main shows on the Mariner of the Seas were better. On the Liberty we liked the comedian and juggling act. If you love seeing the shows, Royal Caribbean was better for the main shows and Carnival was slightly better for the comedians.

  • Dining Room We enjoyed the atmosphere of both dining rooms on the Liberty and Mariner of the Seas. We felt that the menu had a little more variety on the Mariner of the Seas.

  • Friendliness of staff The Liberty and Mariner of the Seas both get high grades. We did have one waiter that complained some on one of our trips on the Mariner. We had a slightly better experience on the Liberty, but feel that both crews did an excellent job and that this should not be a distinguishing factor on choosing a cruise.

  • Pools The Mariner of the Seas and Liberty both had salt water pools - which most cruise ships have. They both had pools for kids and adults. We liked the Liberty's pools better because one had a slide. If you have kids, this would be something that they would definitely enjoy.

  • Spa We tried the spa on the Liberty and loved it. We did not try the spa on the Mariner of the Seas. Usually you can't go wrong when getting a spa treatment.

  • Excursions We enjoyed our excursions on both ships. We're not sure why, but there are very few excursions on Puerto Rico. Both seemed to employ clients who ran the excursions with professional, friendly attitudes. We really haven't run into any tour guides with bad attitudes. Both cruise lines get high marks.

  • Kids Programs We met travelers on Carnival that would absolutely would not sail on Royal Caribbean because of the kids programs. We did not feel the same way at all. In fact, we thought that Carnival and Royal Caribbean did an excellent job with their kids programs. There were lots of kids on both cruises.

  • Age of Clientele There was a wide range of the age of cruisers on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean. The age seemed to be slightly younger on our Carnival cruise. Many times Caribbean destinations during the summer have a lot of children, so that the age of the clientele is younger. If you travel during the school year, the average age is older with many less children. In general, especially during the school year, Carnival has a younger crowd. This can help you plan if you prefer a younger or slightly older crowd.

  • Game Room Both the Mariner of the Seas and Liberty had a similar size game room. We do not feel that this was a distinguishing factor, even though it can be an important part of the trip for the kids!

  • Cafeteria We felt that the food was more varied on the Mariner of the Seas. The quality was generally good to very good on both ships.

  • Odds and Ends We liked the outdoor movies that Liberty had each evening. We thought that the putt-putt golf course was a little better on the Mariner of the Seas. We did not prefer the access to the internet cape on the Liberty. You had to walk through a lounge with cigar smoke for access. We also talked to cruisers on the Royal Caribbean who would not sail Carnival due to too many smokers. We did not find this to be the case on our trips, and thought that there was little difference in the number of people smoking.

The Bottom Line Overall, for our needs we liked the Mariner of the Seas slightly better. We would not hesitate to book on either ship again, as we thought that both trips were very enjoyable.

An Itinterary for an Educational Field Trip to New York City

When student travel tours are scheduled for New York City, the main item on the itinerary is art and culture, with some standard points of interest, like The Statue of Liberty and Times Square, included. Here is a descriptive sample itinerary for a New York City student field trip, which balances art and cultural highlights with visits to interesting destinations in Manhattan.

Always use a professional educational travel consultant when planning a trip to New York City. Certified tour guides must be used in New York City, and motor coach drivers must be well versed in street layouts and traffic patterns. An educational travel consultant will select qualified individuals to work with an educational tour. The goal of educational travel is to deliver the highest quality learning experience to the group, and to keep the student travel tour on schedule.

Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

Student travel tours planned in advance can easily complement classroom activities. “Modern Teachers” is a MoMA program that allows educators to customize educational tours of the Museum. Working closely with materials on MoMA’s website http://www.moma.org/modernteachers/, an educator can construct a lesson plan to coincide with the field trip to MoMA. This exciting tool for educators is complemented by video lessons on the world’s greatest artists. With advance notice, educational tour groups can visit MoMA with a docent.

Metropolitan Art Museum

At the Metropolitan Art Museum, an emphasis on the classics benefit the student travel group, and give them a well rounded approach to art history. The brand new Greek and Roman galleries offer glimpses into the world of the ancients with 5,200 pieces from the permanent collection now available for public viewing. The Cloisters is located at Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan and recently reopened in 2006. It represents the world of medieval art and architecture. Other exhibits, lectures, and special programs are also available to student tour groups. Have an educational travel professional schedule a guided student tour for the Met in advance.

A Student Tour of the Empire State Building

Have a qualified educational tour consultant schedule a group tour of the Empire State Building in New York City. The Empire State Building was constructed in 1930, during the beginning of the great depression, greatly reducing building costs. The 86th Floor Observatory offers a commanding view of Manhattan and has been the site of filming “Sleepless in Seattle” and “An Affair to Remember.” The building has a unique history surrounding its construction. The impetus for building the Empire State Building was a contest between Walter Chrysler (Chrysler Corporation) and John Jakob Raskob (General Motors) to see who could build the tallest skyscraper.

Guided Tour of Manhattan

Half-day student tours of Manhattan usually begin at Central Park, the northernmost point in Manhattan, and end to Battery Park, the Southernmost point. The tour covers some major points of interest in Manhattan such as Central Park, Times Square, Soho, City Hall, Wall Street, The Statue of Liberty, and much more. In addition to seeing points of interest, student tour groups will also learn about the artistic and commercial history of Manhattan on this tour.

Educational Tours: See a Broadway Musical While in New York City

Almost every student travel group wants to experience at least one Broadway Musical while in New York City. Tickets for popular shows need to be procured in advance by a student travel company. “Wicked”, “Chicago”, and a “Chorus Line” are popular Broadway musicals appropriate for student travel groups. Off Broadway productions are also available. Book student travel group tickets in advance through a qualified educational travel company to obtain student seating together and receive the best price per ticket.

An educational field trip to New York City can offer the student the travel opportunity of a lifetime. This is only one sample itinerary of a student tour of New York City. There are many other variations of student travel tours to New York. With clear objectives in mind and proper planning, a more customized educational tour of New York City can easily be created. Travel Tips Dealing With Delayed Flights

A delayed flight can be a problem. The airlines get bad publicity because so many flights do not depart and arrive on time. In the U.S., the Department of Transportation keeps statistics and publishes them regularly. In Europe, there are strict new rules for compensation. This is making the problem better.

The vast majority of the time you won't experience flight problems. For all of the publicity that airlines get, most of their flights get you where you want to go with very little delay. But problems can occur. You should be prepared and have a good idea what to expect when something does happen.

It won't win you any sympathy with a frazzled airline agent if you yell and scream for compensation that is not due to you. On the other hand, you can and should be persistent in getting what you do deserve. Remember that those airlines agents really are trying to do their best to help you and everyone else who is in line with you. Let's go over a few scenarios.

What will the airlines do for you if you have a delayed flight? It really depends on why it is delayed. If the flight problem is because of air-traffic delays due to congestion, most airlines won't do much for you because they aren't responsible for air traffic control delays (ATC delays).

If the delayed flight is because of weather... well, you're all pretty much at the mercy of the weather including the airline. These situations are out of their control. They will try to get you on your way as best they can, but you won't be compensated for these types of delays.

If your delayed flight is due to a problem that is in their control, the airline may be more accommodating. For instance, is there is a mechanical problem, or crew rest problems, or computer problems with check-in?

Mechanical problems are a safety issue, so you are in a grey area there. It pays to find out what your airline says it will do. Read its "contract of carriage" before you travel. This lists your rights for when you encounter a delayed flight.

The airline may get you on your way with only an hour or so delay, but what if you have a connecting flight... and you can't make your connection? If you might miss your connections because of a delay at your initial airport, alert the gate agent. If there are a lot of passengers missing a connection, the airline may briefly hold a connecting flight for you.... but don't count on this.

With airlines getting dinged for flight delays, they'd often rather leave a few passengers behind than report a late flight. If they can't hold the connecting flight, ask the agent to rebook you for a new connecting flight. You can call the reservations number for your airline, and you may get rebooked faster than you can at the airport with all those other passengers waiting for help.

If your flight problem was a delay of the initial flight, and if the weather isn't the issue, ask whether you can go on another flight or through a different hub. Should none of that work, and you miss the plane, alert an agent.

If a delayed flight made you miss your connection, the airline must put you on another flight, but it could be a while.

ADA Sign Height - Tips For Hanging ADA Regulatory Signage

What are the proper measurements for ADA sign height?

Business owners and operators need to be aware of ADA Regulatory guidelines. Purchasing and displaying ADA signage is one of the cheapest and simplest ways to achieve compliance.

But in order to be fully in compliance with the standards for proper use of these signs, they must be mounted at the correct height and position to be effective.

During the years I have been in the acrylic sign busniess, many people have asked for information about hanging tactile signage properly. Several of my customers have complained that this information is not as easy to find as they'd like. Even the government websites don't always have the latest guidelines listed where you can find them easily.

I've researched the facts for you, and listed the specifications according to the latest available from the 2004 updated guidelines. These guidelines cover permanent signage for rooms, offices and restrooms.

How to measure accurately? Start at the bottom!

According to the ADA Accessibility Guidelines, sign height must be measured from finish floor or ground. "Finish floor" is a building term meaning a floor surface complete with tile, carpet, or other finished covering that is not in need of any further construction. If your floor surface is concrete only, this is the surface of the finished floor from which you'll make your measurements.

All measurements start on the ground and end on the baseline of the tactile letters on your sign. The tactile letters are the characters raised from the surface of the sign. You can tell which they are by touching the sign with your fingers. This is important to know if your sign contains any lettering painted on, made of vinyl decals, or other flat graphics. Those examples are not tactile, so you don't need them for determining your measurements.

The baseline is the bottom of the letters making up the words of your sign. There may be only one word, or more than one line of text. I'll show you what to do in both cases.

How to determine height for mounting signs

ADA tactile signs are to be placed a minimum of 48 inches (or 1220 millimeters) above the finish floor or ground surface measured from the baseline of the lowest set of characters.

For example, if your sign has two lines of text, the minimum measurement ends at the bottom of the lowest line of lettering. If your sign has only one word, you simply use that word to determine your sign height.

Your ADA signs are to be mounted a maximum of 60 inches (or 1525 millimeters) above the finish floor or ground surface measured to the highest tactile character.

For example, if your sign has two lines of text, the maximum height is measured to the bottom of the highest line of tactile letters. If you only have one line of text or one word, you use the bottom of that text to determine your height measurement.

Now your signs are in compliance with ADA standards

There is a difference of 12 inches (or 305 millimeters) in the two recommended height measurements. As long as your sign falls within this area, you are in compliance according to ADA guidelines.

In the unlikely event that you have a tactile sign with over twelve inches worth of lines of text, I suggest checking with state and federal ADA professionals to determine the proper measurements for your special needs.

Otherwise, the vast majority of ADA tactile signage will fit neatly within these ADA tactile sign height guidelines.

City Of Heroes: A Travel Power Guide

We at the Marvello Corps supergroup like to give help where we can. Where as City of Heroes isn’t the most complicated MMORPG out there, it’s always good to have a little bit of information to help those who want it so I have written this guide to one of the most fun parts of both City of Heroes and City of Villains; the travel powers.

Over the 50 levels of both games you are going to do an awful lot of travelling around. You have the choice of 4 different powers that you can take to help you get around the different zones. They each have their benefits, drawbacks and pre-requisite powers that need to be taken before you can access them.

The powers themselves can be accessed at level 14 at the earliest and they are so prevalent in the game it is just assumed that by level 14 you will have one. It’s important to remember this when choosing your early powers, especially if you want to PVP, as the terrain of the higher-level zones (and the distances you have to travel between missions) is much easier and quicker to navigate around with one of these powers. So you want one right?

This means that either at level 6, 8, 10 or 12 you have to make the choice of travel power and pick a pre-requisite. The travel powers themselves are Fly, Teleport, Super Jump and Super Speed. Which one you choose will greatly depend on personal preference or character concept. I chose Fly with my original character because I was new to the game and wanted a flying character. My main preference, however, is for Super Jump as it is very versatile. This doesn’t stop me taking other travel powers though, sometimes for character concept or sometimes because I like a change. Sometimes I like to pick powers based on the pre-requisite power. This is always a good idea if there is a power that you want because it saves you having to access 2 travel pools and gives you a further power selection that otherwise would have been lost to you. As you can see there are many things to consider when deciding on your power.

So here are the powers along with some of their pre-requisite powers and pros and cons.

Fly:

This seams to be the one power that every new player wants and you can see why. Flying is so ingrained into the concept of a super-powered hero it almost seams wrong to have a hero without it.

Some say it is the safest power and it has certainly been designed as such. With it you can often completely miss mobs. Within missions it is not overly versatile but can be a benefit to the right character. It has a fairly high endurance usage (even though changed recently) and in order to use it with powers you will need to optimise your build. One option is to take Hover (one of the pre-requisite powers) as it has a much lower endurance usage and gives a defence buff as well, all be it a small one. One thing to remember is that it has a suppression effect so if you fire your powers you can not simply fly off, it takes a few seconds before the power comes back.

On the down side Fly is very slow compared to the other travel powers. Recently the option to slot Swift to enhance fight was added but it gives little benefit to a fully slotted Fly. The power its self needs to be slotted. I would recommend at least slotting with 3 flight speed enhancements. If you find you are having problems with endurance a 4th slot with an endurance modifier should solve that.

As far as Pre-requisites go you have a choice of Air Superiority and Hover. Air Superiority is actually quite a nice attack that deals a fare amount of damage and knocks an enemy out of the sky (or off there feet). It’s handy for Defenders and Controllers who don’t get many Melee attacks. I would warn against it for characters who use weapons though as you will have to re-draw your weapon after firing this off.

Hover is like mini-fly. It has a very slow speed but this can be enhanced with Flight speed enhancements to give a fairly good speed for use in battles. It does not suffer from suppression and has an incredibly small defence bonus. It is good for non-melee characters that want to fly above a battle and attack/buff/de-buff and can be useful for avoiding floor traps like Quicksand and Caltraps. This isn’t as good for Melee characters as you tend to stay away from the fight more.

Teleport:

Teleport is fast. In fact it is the fastest power in the game. You will get to everywhere as fast as super-humanly possible and it looks really good and has a very useful pre-requisite power.

It’s a very nice power to have in some respects. In others though, it is sadly lacking. For the benefit of speeding across zones you will have to 6-slot this power. Firstly 3 you need slots for endurance reduction. The endurance usage on Teleport is very high. When you first get this power you often have to take breaks between teleportation, as travel across zones will leave you drained. With the slotting however it is manageable and with Stamina as well, it is even more so. The last 3 slots you can use to boost the powers range (using normal range enhancements) that will speed up your travel.

As far as versatility goes this is probably the least versatile of the travel powers. Its speed is great but changing direction is sometimes a pain. One of the redeeming features of this power though is the ability to teleport away from slowing effects. It is useful in missions even if it takes some thinking outside the box to find some of the uses. Teleporting between ledges in missions is not the easiest thing in the world and if you want a power that is useful in that respect then maybe one of the others would be better for you.

Recall Friend and Teleport Foe are both useful powers as well and really help to make the power a better choice. Recall Friend lets you teleport team mates to you. This can be useful if you are getting people away from trouble or helping people reach missions quicker. It is less useful in PVP but this is where Teleport For really comes into its own. Teleport Foe allows you to teleport and enemy to you. It’s occasionally used as a pulling technique in PVE but it has a large agro range so you often find that the whole mob will follow as well. This is not always the case in PVP though and the power can be used to target individuals and either move them away from one of your allies or move them closer to another one.

If you can afford the slots then this is a nice power to have, even if it takes a little getting used to.

Super Jump:

I find this to be the most versatile of the travel powers. It combines a good speed with a decent vertical movement allowing quick crossing of maps as well as useability inside missions for reaching some of the tricky ledges. It also has the benefit of allowing you to control where you are going to land. The only down side to this power is that if you are not careful you may land near or on mobs who can quite easily kill you. It does not take long, however, to learn some of the tricks with Super Jump and it will afford you safe travel around zones with not much practice.

Super Jump is another power that has the suppression effect however and is greatly affected by powers that slow you or remove your ability to jump. It also has a very subtle power effect and it has been known for some people to run out of endurance during a battle because they have left this power on. That is not to say it is heavy on endurance, in fact outside of battle situations you never need to worry about endurance at all. The power is at a premium with just a single Jump enhancement and is actually quite fun to use.

The pre-requisite powers are equally as good as those of Fly. Combat Jumping is to Super Jump as Hover is to Fly. It gives you a very minor defence and can be use as a minor travel power. It is a toggle of course and endurance heavy builds, or those who already run many toggles may have a problem running CJ at the same time as fighting. Jump Kick has a funny animation but is every bit as good as Air Superiority. Once again using this power will have the effect of sheathing any weapons you may be using, but that does not stop it being useful for the right character.

Another thing to consider when taking the Jumping pool is Acrobatics. I have deliberately left out the other powers in the travel pools because on the whole they are not much use and do not have an effect on whether a power is chosen or not. Acrobatics is different. It is a toggle that allows some protection from holds and knock back effects. It’s worthwhile considering if you have a character that does not have a power like that available within your own sets.

This is my favourite power for travelling. It’s a good all rounder.

Super Speed:

This is the second most versatile of all the travel powers yet is suffers in one great respect. Unlike all of the other travel powers Super Speed is the only one that forces you to go around objects. The payoff for that is that you have a very speedy power that grants you a limited stealth effect. Travelling with Super Speed is not the easiest thing and you often have to re-evaluate your route half way through but the speed lone means that you still tend to end up at missions before your teammates.

In missions as well this is a useful power. It can help you keep up with your team. It can help you stealth through missions, avoiding those tricky mobs, and it has a very low endurance drain so it is possible to use this power in a fight.

For enhancements, you can just slot one for running speed and you are all done, saving you valuable slots. It is a good idea, however, to get this power with Hurdle from the fitness pool as that will give you some benefits vertically and allow you to jump over some obstacles you would otherwise have to run around.

Super Speed has the benefit of having one of the most useful pre-requisites; hasten. This power speeds up your attacks recharge time. Some see it as a must-have power but I have never thought of it as such. It does however give you great benefits in some fights and is a very worthwhile power to take.

The other option is Flurry. Much like Air Superiority it is a punch, but one that deals damage over time. The animation is a little long for it but you can get a good attack out of it if you are prepared to slot it for damage and accuracy.

Super Speed would be my second choice as a versatile power and again is one that is a lot of fun to use. Sometimes allowing you to see parts of the maps you otherwise would have missed.

And that’s it. As I said before, a lot of this comes down to preference but I hope that this, in some way, is a useful guide to those wanting to know a little more about travelling in City of Heroes and City of Villains.
